Student Mobility Guidelines

The EMCI consortium has defined Student Mobility as a priority activity within the network which enables students to visit a partner institution to improve their language skills and gain experience of interpreter training in a new environment.

  1. Term/semester dates will be circulated at the beginning of the academic year.
  2. Requests for attendance at a partner university should be sent to the host institution (with a copy to the co-ordinator) at the beginning of the semester.
  3. Such stays will normally be limited to two weeks. If a student wishes to study for an extended period, fee-paying institutions are likely to charge fees.
  4. Requests may be declined if extra students cannot be accommodated.
  5. Visiting students are welcome to join any classes where places are available. They will be encouraged to work in class (especially in simultaneous) but priority will always be given to full-time students. Visitors will also be expected to give speeches for other students to interpret in class.

Funding of your stay at a partner university

In order to receive funding you will have to:

  1. Obtain approval for a study visit abroad from the local EMCI coordinator, who will forward it to the receiving institution with a copy to the EMCI general co-ordinator.
  2. Send the approved form (by e-mail or post) to the EMCI general co-ordinator, and to the home and the receiving universities.
  3. Make your arrangements for travel and accommodation once the visit has been confirmed.
  4. On your return home submit the original plane/train tickets and boarding passes to the local EMCI co-ordinator together with the expenses claim form.
  5. Send a brief report to your local EMCI coordinator and the receiving institution, with a copy to the EMCI general co-ordinator.
