A broad general knowledge is one of the core skills professional conference interpreters must have, according to AIIC and to many scholars. Young trainees who feel the need to enhance their general knowledge can do it if they plan carefully. The first step would be to create a list of relevant subjects for the profession (we list a few examples available in the existing literature). Then we suggest a decalogue of “good habits” that in the long run might be helpful to students or even to professionals who want to work on their general knowledge.
