Abstract

It is a short presentation of the history of interpreting since the ancient times till the Nuremberg Trials after the Second World War. It presents the origin of the profession of the interpreter in Ancient Egypt, during the period of discoveries and colonization, and the interpreting in Modern times. It shows the growing interest for interpreting as a profession and a means of communication in international affairs after the first World War and the distinction of two modes of interpreting: the consecutive and the simultaneous.
