Current Project Title
Interpreting Strategies on Gender Equality and Non-Sexist Language
Purpose
The goal of this project is to develop guidelines for raising awareness on gender equality and non-sexist language in interpreter training. These guidelines will be aimed at interpreters, interpreter trainers, and interpreter trainees.
Research Question
Is specific training on gender-sensitive interpretation necessary for conference interpreters?
Objectives
- To gather additional data and explore differences across language groups.
- To assess:
- (i) The level of students’ sensitivity to or awareness of gender-neutral language. Do students notice or recognize such language?
- (ii) The “intuitive” (conscious, but not formally learned) strategies that students use in various languages. How do students prioritize gender-neutral language compared to other aspects of speech, such as content and terminology?
